Blog #63. Truth to Power

Let’s speak truth into this moment.
What we’re witnessing is not new. A government—our government—turning its might inward, branding dissent as danger, deploying force not to protect but to suppress. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen tear gas bloom in American streets or peaceful protests met with armored denial. But just because it’s happened before doesn’t mean we accept it. Not now. Not ever.

And here’s where elder women come in—not with torches, but with torchlight. With clarity. With courage. With the unshakeable strength that comes from having seen things. We know how power operates. We’ve read the signs. We’ve raised children and built communities during bad laws and worse leaders.
So what do wise elder women do in times like these? We steady the ground beneath us.
We call in—not just out. We reach across generations and say: “You’re not alone in this fight.” We open our homes, our wallets, our rolodexes (yes, the analog and the digital kind). We remind the world that rage can be righteous, and response can be strategic. And we do not let anyone tell us our time has passed. Our time is.
Not on our watch. Not with our silence. We are not just witnesses—we are wisdom holders, legacy builders, strategists who know the long game. We’ve marched before. We’ve organized bake sales and bail funds. We’ve written letters, raised fists, shown up in courtrooms and classrooms and church basements when no one else did. We are not afraid of unrest, because we’ve lived through upheaval and know it’s often the first stirrings of transformation.
Let them underestimate us. Let them write us off as past our prime. They’ll miss the fire behind our eyes, the networks we’ve quietly nurtured for decades, the influence we wield in boardrooms, bedrooms, and ballot boxes. We are not here to soothe the status quo. We are here to stand steady while the winds rage—and to show the next generation that strength can be fierce and still full of grace.
So let us use what we have: our wisdom, our witness, our warriorship. Let us fund the freedom fighters and feed the weary. Let us call our legislators and call out the lies. Let us lift up the organizers, amplify the artists, and protect the protestors like we once protected our own children when the world was unkind. This moment calls for more than despair. It calls for discernment. For direction. For women who know how to walk through fire—and bring water with them.
