Yomta

The power of nature and community

Yomta

Yomta means “Song” and is the title of women shamans in pre-Columbian northern California. Yomta’s chanted for ceremonies to offer healing and solace to her people by controlling the elements at play. This Diva weaves the elements – represented in her medallion as earth (stone), sea (shell), plants (rose petal), and sky (monarch wing). Each of nature’s elements are powerful, but when they are united, their power is enhanced. There are also four women, representing the four cardinal directions, who support Yomta’s song. Their message is that there is greater power in community than isolation. Yomta reminds us that the way we know – from the heart and from the gut – is enhanced when we bring together the power of nature and in community
