Ixchel

We have the power to make life beautiful

Ixchel

Ixchel is the Mayan moon goddess who is also the patroness of the arts, textiles, painting, medicine and healing. She reflects the dual nature of the world as the Mayans saw it, capable of generosity and protection or of retribution and death. She appears as either a beautiful young woman or an old crone. The Diva evokes Ixchel’s role as patron of artisans, specifically weaving. She is said to be weaving the threads of life, but in her left hand, she also holds a staff. This Diva’s medallion features the floss and seeds of the milkweed and a monarch’s wing. The milkweed and its floss represent the fragility of life and the potential that all seeds hold. The monarch is said to carry messages from our ancestors. Ixchel’s message is that we have the power to make life beautiful and productive
