Devata
One’s own awareness shapes one’s power

On the walls of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, there are nearly 2000 women carved into the stone. For many decades, the role of these devata was unknown—similar to the histories of so many women around the world. New research indicates that women were politically, socially, spiritually and economically empowered and important to Khmer society. This devata has a wing, symbolizing her divinity and a chain denoting her earthly work. Her beautiful crown rises from her medallion of violets. The color violet is linked to the crown chakra, focusing on enlightenment and awareness. In the west, the violet symbolizes honesty, protection, healing, and remembrance. Devata’s message is that women contribute to every dimension of society, all of which is based on one’s own awareness of power
